Bible Tops America's 10 Favorite Books of All Time

"The results may come as no surprise considering statistics that reflect how plentiful Bibles are in the nation. An estimated 92 percent of Americans own a Bible and the average household owns three, a 1993 Barna Research study found. More recent research puts Bible ownership at an average of four per household, which suggest that Bible publishers sell twenty-five million copies a year, according to The New Yorker. But the revered book, a testament to God's enduring love toward mankind, is read by just 45 percent of Americans in a typical week, the Barna Research Group reported two years ago.

The Harris Poll.)
Unfortunately, there was no percentages mentioned regarding each book. It's worth noting that Atlas Shrugged by the militant Atheist Ayn Rand is #9, but I also think it's interesting to see that while a lot of people think highly of the bible, and apparently read in it, they don't learn a lot from reading it. I guess they keep re-reading John 3:16.
I'll combine some surveys in a graph here:

"Only half of American adults can name even one of the four Gospels. Most Americans cannot name the first book of the Bible. Only one-third know that Jesus (no, not Billy Graham) delivered the Sermon on the Mount. A majority of Americans wrongly believe that the Bible says that Jesus was born in Jerusalem. When asked whether the New Testament book of Acts is in the Old Testament, one quarter of Americans say yes. More than a third say that they don’t know. Most Americans don’t know that Jonah is a book in the Bible. Ten percent of Americans believed that Joan of Arc was Noah’s wife."

Unravelled Threads

""And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. (Matthew 27)"

Needless to say, there is no historical record of such an astonishing event, and no other book in the Bible so much as mentions it - a stunning omission, considering this easily qualifies as the most spectacular miracle of the New Testament. Yet if we are to believe Christian apologists who say that every word of the Bible is true, this mass resurrection really did happen, and then sank into obscurity without a ripple and was forgotten. Not a single person who witnessed it felt compelled to write it down or make any record. Nor does any Christian evangelist of the first several centuries ever refer to it in their preaching."

A Passion for Humanism

"Humanism will never make any progress with the American masses until it learns to combine reason and logic with emotion. Most people are moved by emotion. Note the effect of Black gospel music, rap, and rock and roll. Especially note the success of fundamentalist preachers. They have a language, a cadence, a system that rouses people's emotions through a pseudo-logic and it sinks in."

Humaniststudies.org, (Letters to the Editor) June 6, 2007
Probably true. I say this as a Black Metaller who knows the power of music. (Ooh, note the date above) Maybe not so much in creating someone's opinion, but fuelling it. Black Metal is of course Anti-Christian escapism, and not suitable for a positive message... but it works. Punk/hardcore also has a clear effect.
So if someone tried to use happier music for a more humanistic, positive message, I'm sure it would work. Now, let's just learn to play!

Thousands of So. Koreans Training to 'Invade' No. Korea with Gospel

"One Christian, who asked not to be named, told me, "We believe that because of world pressure, North Korea will soon have to open up to get much-needed foreign currency and we have many ready and willing to move in there with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They are aware that the country could be open for just a short time, and then it will close tight again, and they will be trapped inside.
"But they are willing to be martyrs for the Gospel because they love the people of North Korea."

Crosswalk.com, 10 May 2007

It makes me sick. The North Korean people have been living under extreme conditions for such a long time, and now these vipers prepare to brainwash them even further.
